Members of the Alpha Nu Omicron chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) international honor society at Wor-Wic Community College recently received a 2021 Recognizing Excellence in Acceptance and Completion with Honors (REACH) Award for membership development and furthering PTK’s mission of providing recognition and opportunities for growth and development for students on campus. REACH chapters achieved or exceeded a 15% membership acceptance rate in 2020.
Loretta Viens of Salisbury was a single mom who had been unemployed for months due to COVID-19 before submitting an application to study metal fabrication. She had been looking for a job while helping her 7-year-old son, Jaxon, with virtual learning.
Ashley Walters of Princess Anne said that if she could have obtained her bachelor’s degree at Wor-Wic, she would have. “I sing Wor-Wic’s praises all the time, to anyone, no matter what their career path is,” said the elementary school principal.
The following students completed their program requirements to graduate with a certificate (CT), associate of applied science (AAS), associate of arts in teaching (AAT), associate of science (AS) or associate of arts (AA) degree from Wor-Wic Community College this past fall and spring.
Twenty-six law enforcement officers from Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, Dorchester, Talbot, Caroline, Queen Anne’s and Garrett counties graduated in the 86th entrance-level class of the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy (ESCJA) operated by Wor-Wic Community College at the corner of Route 50 and Walston Switch Road in Salisbury.
A free information session about dual enrollment at Wor-Wic Community College will be held on Thursday, Aug. 12, at 6 p.m., in Guerrieri Hall at Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury. Parents and their high school juniors and seniors who are interested in beginning dual enrollment this fall are invited to participate.
The Wor-Wic Community College Foundation is sponsoring a 5K Run/Walk, along with the 2021 Law Enforcement Team Cup Challenge, on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 9 a.m., at the college campus on the corner of Route 50 and Walston Switch Road in Salisbury. Check in and registration begin at 8 a.m.
Wor-Wic Community College recently welcomed JoEllen Bynum of Girdletree as director of grants.
Wor-Wic Community College recently held its 19th annual golf tournament at the college’s Ocean Resorts Golf Club in Berlin. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the college’s on-campus child development center.
The continuing education division at Wor-Wic Community College is offering two iPad courses this summer.
