Captain Bryan Lewis of Hebron was only 43 when he died in February of this year, but before battling cancer, he devoted most of his life to serving the community. He served the Salisbury Fire Department for 18 years in many capacities, including as a firefighter, paramedic and lieutenant, and before that, he was a 911 dispatcher for Wicomico County Emergency Services and a volunteer for the Westside Fire Department.
To honor his memory and legacy of service, the Salisbury Paramedic Foundation started a scholarship fund in his name for aspiring paramedics at Wor-Wic Community College. The first scholarship recipients will be announced on Monday, Nov. 18, at 5:30 p.m., at Wor-Wic.
“We want to help people get started in a career, but more than that, we want to raise more Bryan Lewises,” said Debi Hammel, vice president of the foundation. “We want people to also aspire to work to the same dedication he showed.”
The two scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 each, will support students enrolled in Wor-Wic’s paramedic or emergency medical services programs.
“We are grateful for the support of the Salisbury Paramedic Foundation and proud that our dedicated students will continue to carry on the lifesaving legacy of Bryan Lewis,” said Dr. Karie Solembrino, dean of health professions at Wor-Wic.
