Pi Day escape room

The mathematics and science department at Wor-Wic Community College will hold a free “Pi Day” escape room event on Thursday, March 14, from 12:30 to 4 p.m., in Room 105 of Henson Hall at the college, located at the corner of Route 50 and Walston Switch Road in Salisbury.

The event celebrates the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter — 3.14. “Pi is an interesting number that is underappreciated during the rest of the year,” said Mary Lou Townsend, associate professor of mathematics. “We hope Pi Day makes people aware of the usefulness and beauty of numbers like pi and math in general.”

Townsend says completing the escape room will take most groups 5-10 minutes. “You don’t need to be a mathematician to solve the series of puzzles related to pi and if you do, you get pie,” she said, “and maybe you will learn something new about this fascinating number.”
