Tyler Richardson of Pocomoke City came from a family of truckers, but going through the CDL program at Wor-Wic to attain his license always seemed out of reach. “Before this class, I was working warehouse jobs,” he said. “But it got to the point that I wanted to do something in life that I could stay with and love as a career in the future.”

But Richardson wasn’t sure how he could afford to take time off and pay for the course, which runs from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. four days a week, for eight weeks, and still support his family. Luckily, he talked to the financial aid office at Wor-Wic, which helped him obtain a Workforce Development scholarship. It made all the difference.

“The scholarship helped me in so many different ways,” he said. “It took the stress off me. As soon as I had received the news about the full scholarship, we all knew it was a blessing and were extremely happy and grateful.”

His family was ecstatic, too: “They were very proud that I was going into the transportation industry just like them,” he said.
