Judge Daniel M. Long
Daniel M. Long, a member of the House of Delegates representing District 38 from 1983 to 1990 and Somerset County Circuit Court judge from 1990 to 2016, will address the 2018 Wor-Wic Community College graduates at commencement on Wednesday, May 9, at 7 p.m., at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center in Salisbury.
As a judge, he served as chair of the Maryland Judicial Conference (MJC) Legislative Committee and the Conference of Circuit Judges Executive Committee, and was a member of the Article 27 (Crimes and Punishments) Revision Committee, the MJC Executive Committee and the Judicial Compensation Committee. Long has received the Anselm Soldaro Judicial Civility Award from the Maryland State Bar Association and the Distinguished Judicial Award from the University of Baltimore Young Lawyers Alumni Council. He was recognized as Judge of the Year by the Maryland State Bar Association Litigation Section in 2015.
During his time as a delegate, he served as the Judiciary Committee chair, the house chair of the Joint Committee of Administrative, Executive and Legislative Review, and the co-chair of the Task Force on Drunk and Drugged Driving. He was a member of the Legislative Policy Committee and the Court of Appeals Standing Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure.
Long graduated from Salisbury University and the University of Baltimore School of Law. In December 2016, he was appointed by Gov. Larry Hogan to chair the Justice Reinvestment Oversight Board, which is the board charged with implementing Maryland’s Justice Reform Legislation. Long continues to sit as a senior judge in the State of Maryland.
