A motorcycle safety basic rider course is being offered by the continuing education division in cooperation with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) at Wor-Wic Community College on the corner of Route 50 and Walston Switch Road in Salisbury.

The class will meet on Friday, May 3, from 6 to 9 p.m., on Saturday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, May 5, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the college campus.

This 17-hour course is designed for beginning riders who have little or no riding experience. It includes seven hours of classroom and 10 hours of riding instruction. It covers responsible riding, proper riding gear and defensive riding strategies, clutch-throttle control, stopping, turning, shifting and basic crash avoidance skills.

Instructors for the course are certified by the MVA.

Anyone who is 16 years and six months old is eligible to register. Anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a consent form.

Other sections of this course begin May 10, May 17 and May 31.
