Tayari Jones

The public is invited to attend a free literary reading by writer Tayari Jones on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m., in Room 302 of the Hazel Center at Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury. Jones is the author of “Leaving Atlanta,” which received the 2003 Hurston/Wright LEGACY Award for Debut Fiction, and “The Untelling,” which received the Lillian C. Smith Award for New Voices. Her most recent novel, “Silver Sparrow,” was chosen by the Black Caucus of the American Library Association as an Honor Book and was nominated for an NAACP Image Award and the 2013 IMPAC Dublin International Literary Award. An associate professor in the master’s in fine arts program at Rutgers the State University of New Jersey Newark Campus, Jones earned degrees from Spelman College in Atlanta, Ga., The University of Iowa in Iowa City and Arizona State University in Tempe. Jones spent the 2011-12 academic year as a Radcliffe Institute Fellow at Harvard University in Cambridge.
