At the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Middle States Regional Convention in Harrisburg, Pa., the Alpha Nu Omicron chapter at Wor-Wic Community College received several awards, including an Award of Achievement for having the highest combined scores for its “honors in action” and “college” projects.
For the “honors in action” project, the chapter researched emergency preparedness and conducted a seminar for local community leaders and organizations involved in emergency preparedness.
The chapter’s “college” project, called “Start Here, Finish Here, Go Anywhere,” focused on college completion. The chapter held several “Pledge to Completion” signings on campus, where PTK members encouraged fellow students to complete their associate degrees before moving on. In addition, the chapter worked with the student development division at Wor-Wic to establish a peer mentoring and tutoring program.
The chapter also received Constellation Completion Challenge and Five Star Chapter Development Plan awards.
Taren Nance, chapter vice president of leadership, and Cathy Franklin, chapter secretary, won regional officer medallions and two of the three Distinguished Officer of the Year pins.
Elizabeth Alexander won a regional member medallion and one of three Distinguished Member of the Year pins.
PTK advisor Terry Thompson, associate professor of biological science at Wor-Wic, was awarded one of three Middle States Distinguished Advisor awards.
