Free African-American History Presentation to be Held Feb. 15

In celebration of African-American history month, Dr. Sharita Jacobs-Thompson will give a free presentation about African-American women in Maryland during the Civil War and Reconstruction periods on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m., in Guerrieri Hall at Wor-Wic Community College on the corner of Route 50 and Walston Switch Road in Salisbury.

Jacobs-Thompson is an assistant professor of Civil War era and Africana studies at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania. She has presented her work at several national conferences and on C-SPAN 3. In addition, she has published several book reviews and short essays.

After receiving her bachelor’s degree in political science and her master’s degree in American history from North Carolina Central University in Durham, Jacobs-Thompson went on to complete her doctorate in U.S. history at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
