Linda Joy Burke
The public is invited to attend a poetry reading by Linda Joy Burke on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m., in Room 103 of the Workforce Development Center at Wor-Wic Community College on the corner of Route 50 and Walston Switch Road in Salisbury.
Burke is a performance poet and published writer from Columbia, Md. She is the poet in residence for the Howard County Center of African American Culture in Columbia. Her poems have been published in the “Beltway Poetry Quarterly” and “Little Patuxent Review” journals, and in the anthologies “Gargoyle 54,” “Obsidian II,” “Poetry for Peace” and “Thy Mother’s Glass.”
Recognitions for her poetry include the Distinguished Black Marylander award for art from Towson University’s office of diversity and the Poetry for the People Baltimore Legacy award. Burke was also a Coca-Cola Co. and National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts Distinguished Teacher in the Arts nominee.
