Taught courses in curriculum theory, design, and development, as well as controversies in curriculum; Leadership, Diversity, & Societal Change, Intercultural Communication, and Philosophical Foundations of Education. Directed the first international doctoral cohort in Muscat, Oman.

Dr. Burnside guided students in their doctoral research and served as Chairperson of the Graduate Studies Committee, and as a member of the Department of Education’s New Initiatives Review Panel. She has served on the Diversity Task force and the University Technology Committee.

Established Teaching and Learning Center on campus. Provided training in innovative teaching techniques and integrating technology to improve instruction. Supported iPad initiatives, established VoiceThread users group, and designed pedagogy training for the online environment.

Helped to design and directed the Communication AA degree program. Taught a variety of communication courses including: interpersonal communication, small group communication, communication theory, argumentation and debate, public speaking, and professional presentations.
