There’s more than one way to score a goal — something Evan Bier knows as a coach for the Delmarva Blast soccer club for kids. And for his career goals off the field, Bier headed somewhere unexpected after earning his bachelor’s degree in exercise science: Wor-Wic’s physical therapist assistant (PTA) program.

“It’s almost like a graduate program for me,” Bier explained. “In fact, it’s better because of the professors and the small cohort.”

Bier, a Salisbury native who graduated from Wicomico High School, says that becoming a licensed physical therapist assistant will open career doors, and allow him to put his exercise science skills to practical use.

“It was a good opportunity to dip my toe in the water,” he said. “And it’s so much more affordable. I’ll get certified and I won’t have any student debt.”

The program not only delves into the foundation of knowledge that physical therapist assistants need to pass their licensure exam, but also brings them into real-world clinical settings for hands-on experience.

As he completes his second of four semesters in the program, Bier is looking forward to working as a physical therapist assistant. He is intrigued by outpatient work and sports science. “But I’m open to different settings,” he said. Whichever he chooses, he is glad he chose Wor-Wic to reach his goal. “It’s a very good opportunity,” he said. “More people should look into it.”
