Verizon Foundation recently provided $3,000 for students enrolled in the early childhood education transfer program at Wor-Wic Community College.

“Pursuing and achieving a college degree is extremely important to our students,” said Dr. Ray Hoy, president of Wor-Wic. “This scholarship support from Verizon will enable our transfer students to continue their studies as they pursue careers in early childhood education.”

William R. Roberts, Verizon’s president in Maryland and Washington, D.C., said the company is a strong advocate for education. “We want our future leaders to succeed. So, it’s important that we help create opportunities where they can prosper and achieve academically,” Roberts said.

In the early childhood education transfer program, students use lesson plans and related materials on Verizon’s Thinkfinity Web site. This free educational Web site offers comprehensive teaching and learning resources for grades K-12 and helps teachers, parents and students conduct online searches and prepare classroom assignments, reports and research papers.

Scholarship recipients will be selected based on scholastic achievement, and they must maintain a 3.0 grade point average.
