Free Tuition Available for Turf Management Training at Wor-Wic

Free turf management training is now available for students interested in enrolling in the turf management technology certificate of proficiency program offered at Wor-Wic Community College.

The turf management program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to obtain employment in the field of turf management, pesticide management, landscaping or landscape irrigation. Registrations are currently being accepted for the fall semester that begins Sept. 7.

The free turf management classes are covered by a Maryland Energy Sector Partnership grant, which is offered by the Chesapeake Area Consortium for Higher Education (CACHE) Institute for Environmental Careers. The funding covers tuition, fees and books for eligible students.

The grant also covers free “green” jobs training for students interested in enrolling in Wor-Wic’s environmental energy technology and environmental science letter of recognition and certificate of proficiency program options.

“The grant continues through the fall of 2012, but interested students shouldn’t delay because the funding could run out sooner, depending on how many people apply,” said Donald C. Nicholson, technology department head and associate professor of manufacturing at Wor-Wic. “Maryland residents, whether currently employed, looking for entry-level employment or simply updating job skills, can benefit from the free training.”

For more information about enrolling tuition-free in turf management or “green” jobs training at Wor-Wic, call Nicholson at (410) 334-2871 or Wor-Wic’s career services office at (410) 334-2903.
