In celebration of national poetry month, the public is invited to attend a free “Poetry Alive!” creative writing workshop and separate poetry reading with poet Katie Umans on Friday, April 12, in Room 302 of the Hazel Center at Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury.
The workshop will be held from 3 to 4:40 p.m. and the reading will be held from 7 to 8 p.m.
Umans’ first full-length poetry collection, “Flock Book,” was the winner of the St. Lawrence Book Award. She has also received a James Wright Poetry Award from “Mid-American Review,” a poetry prize from “Columbia: A Journal of Literature and Art,” a Hopwood Award from the Avery and Jule Hopwood Program at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and a fellowship from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts.
To reserve a seat for the workshop, email Adam Tavel at atavel@worwic.edu by Monday, April 1. Reservations are not needed for the poetry reading at 7 p.m.
This event is part of the college’s Echoes and Visions reading series sponsored by the arts club and the cultural diversity committee.
