Franchot to Address 2013 Graduates

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot will address the 2013 Wor-Wic Community College graduates at commencement on Tuesday, May 7, at 7 p.m., at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center in Salisbury.

Comptroller Franchot was elected as Maryland's 33rd comptroller in 2006. He is a member of the board of public works and vice chair of the State Retirement and Pension System of Maryland. In recognition of his work on behalf of taxpayers, he was awarded the William R. Snodgrass Distinguished Leadership Award by the Association of Government Accountants.

Prior to being elected comptroller, Franchot served 20 years in the Maryland General Assembly, representing the residents of Montgomery County. During this time, he was a member of the appropriations committee and chairman of the transportation and the environment subcommittee.

Comptroller Franchot received his bachelor’s degree from Amherst (Mass.) College and his juris doctorate from the Northeastern University School of Law in Boston, Mass. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970.

Comptroller Franchot and his wife, Anne Maher, a lawyer, live in Tacoma Park. They have two children, Abigail and Nick.
