Wor-Wic Community College student Heather Guy of Salisbury was recently named to the All-Maryland Academic Team.

The annual competition is sponsored by the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society (PTK). Twenty-eight students from throughout the state were named to either the first or second team. Guy was one of 14 students to make the first team.

“In the past 18 years, Wor-Wic has had 16 students make the first team and 11 were named to the second team,” said Dr. Ray Hoy, president of Wor-Wic.

Guy, a science transfer major with a 4.0 grade point average (GPA), expects to graduate from Wor-Wic in May of 2014 with an associate degree. After graduation, she plans to transfer to Salisbury University to complete a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry.

She is vice president of service and chair of the Honors in Action project for the Alpha Nu Omicron chapter of PTK at Wor-Wic and a peer tutor for the Persistence and Student Success program.

In addition, Guy serves as a mentor with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation for girls who have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. She has also volunteered with Hope and Life Outreach and Relay for Life.
