The 25th anniversary issue of “Echoes & Visions,” the creative arts magazine at Wor-Wic Community College, recently won second place in its category of publications from junior/community colleges with a student enrollment of more than 2,501 in the American Scholastic Press Association’s (ASPA) 2013 Scholastic Yearbook and Magazine Awards.
“Our award is a proud achievement for the entire Wor-Wic family,” said Adam Tavel, associate professor of English and faculty advisor of the magazine.
According to Tavel, the contest is open to all schools in the country. There were a total of 300 magazines in the contest review. The selection process began with a formal application submission that included information about the college and how the magazine is put together, along with what percentage of work was done by faculty, students and outside professionals. The winners were chosen based on the results of an item-specific 1,000-point rubric that evaluated each publication on every aspect of its quality, from the published contents to design and copy editing. The ASPA has been holding the contest since 1980.
Any current credit student can submit their work to “Echoes & Visions” for publication consideration. In addition to Tavel, faculty advisors include Dr. Allison
Bartlett, associate professor of English, Melissa Reddish, instructor of English, and Dr. Elinor Cubbage, professor emeritus of English.
