Noel Dufrene of Stockton, a general studies major at Wor-Wic Community College, is this year’s $500 faculty honors scholarship winner.

Selection is based on scholastic achievement and an essay competition judged by the honors program committee. Applicants were required to write a research-based argumentative essay on whether or not employers should be allowed to access a potential or current employee’s Facebook or other social media page’s private view. Dufrene’s award-winning essay was called "Privacy and Prejudice: An Argument for Social Media Privacy in the Workplace."

“The honors faculty at Wor-Wic have made a difference in my life through their enthusiasm for their disciplines and their encouragement of original thought,” Dufrene said. “The program has enhanced my analytical and creative thinking abilities, and has helped me to aspire to my academic potential. One of the most important things the honors program has taught me is the need to critically analyze information that is presented to me both in and outside of the classroom.”

Dufrene plans to graduate from Wor-Wic this year and transfer to Salisbury University to major in sociology.
