The physical therapist assistant (PTA) program at Wor-Wic Community College was recently granted “candidate for accreditation” status, which enables the college to admit its first 16 students for classes beginning this fall. Applications from prospective students will be accepted through Friday, June 26.
“Labor market analysis demonstrates that the occupational demand for PTAs between 2013 and 2020 will grow by 24 percent nationally, but by 35 percent on the Lower Shore of Maryland,” said Jon C. Waxham, associate professor and PTA department head. “This growth is supported by the increasing number of people who are choosing the Eastern Shore as a retirement destination and the desire of people reaching retirement age to remain active and healthy.”
Wor-Wic’s ability to start this new program is due, in large part, to the generous contributions of donors to the college’s “Providing for Today While Ensuring Tomorrow” fundraising campaign.
“This has been a goal for Wor-Wic for a long time,” Waxham said. “It is very exciting that this program has finally arrived and we can start accepting students into the program.”
